San Angelo Comic Con

Today we set up at San Angelo Comic Con and are actually looking forward to a good weekend. It's odd but the con layout is altered due to COVID restrictions. Fortunately, there are a few familiar faces and an enthusiastic staff. The convention organizers have been very helpful.

We're looking forward to a fun weekend - gaming, selling, and promoting. All the stuff that makes this a fun sideline.

Our convention setup targets a larger audience. Where most companies focus on making a few high price sales, we focus on making volume sales. It's an odd strategy and does fall flat from time to time, but we tend to remain busy throughout the convention moving small items. Actually, the merchandise selection generates enough income to cover the convention costs and the cost of having workers running game sessions. For the most part, the model is successful.

In case you didn't catch that conditional clause, we have had some stinker conventions. There is a delicate balance between finding venues with a diverse population to appreciate both the things you sell and the game you are producing AND small enough that you can be noticed by a majority of the population. Due to the delicate nature of such selections, you are bound to pick a stinker from time to time.

I am hoping the next two days will be a smashing success. Our location is a bit odd - positioned in a hallway. The con organizers assure us the flow pattern of the attendees will be directed in front of our booth. We are also across the isle from the concession stand. Hopefully, the positioning will assure us at least a noticing glance from the attendees.

Unfortunately, our hotel is another matter. I think the descriptions best describing this location are "a good place to die" and "most stains are unrecognizable". The thing is, I know better. I booked my hotel on Hotels.com. Usually, I have good luck. I read the reviews and rarely book anything with a rating less that 4 stars. This hotel had 4.5 and looked really good. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, I knew this was going to be rich.
If you zoom in, you'll notice the decking is rusting through and the cement is showing. Fortunately, once you're actually in the room, it's a lot better. So, as long as we're sealed in this little bubble of normalcy, we might actually survive the night.

Thanks again, guys!
